Starting November 1st, 2019, ABC Medical Supply will be able to process Medicare claims on a “Non-Assignment” basis only.
You are responsible for paying for the item’s full amount upfront, then ABC Medical Supply will file a claim on your behalf to Medicare, and any reimbursement made by Medicare will be paid to you directly.
Other things to consider regarding Medicare claims:
Annual Deductible: There’s a $185 annual deductible for 2019. You are responsible for the deductible, and Medicare will only pay after you have paid your deductible for the year. After you have reached your annual deductible, Medicare will pay 80% of the approved rate for an item.
Coinsurance: You will be responsible for 20% of coinsurance of the approved amount. ABC Medical Supply cannot waive this 20% or your deductible without suffering penalties from Medicare.
Basic Needs: Medicare will pay only for items that meet your basic needs. If you like similar items with additional features or style at a higher price, you have an option to upgrade and pay for the difference yourself. You need to fill out and sign an ABN form for the out-of-pocket upgrade.
ABN Form: The ABN form must detail how the products differ and must have your signature to indicate that you agree to pay the difference in the retail costs between two similar items.
